Jewish Charities Rebut Criticism of Their Efforts to Aid Arabs

October 23, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

United Jewish Communities, the umbrella group that represents Jewish federations across North America, has struck back against critics who argued that money raised by the group to support emergency causes in Israel should not be used to support Arab citizens, The Forward reports.

Americans for a Safe Israel, a nonprofit group, said it believed that one-third of emergency funds raised by United Jewish Communities during the war with Lebanon this summer had been earmarked for Arabs who live in Israel.

United Jewish Communities said only 3 percent was going to Arabs, but that regardless of the amount, it was important to support all Israeli citizens, including Muslims and Christians.
