Johns Hopkins to Expand Cancer Center With $65-Million Gift

May 7, 2014

A new building at Johns Hopkins University’s Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center in Baltimore will be named for Albert P. “Skip” Viragh Jr. following a $65-million donation from the late financier’s foundation, The Baltimore Sun writes.

Mr. Viragh, the founder of Rockville, Md.-based investment firm Rydex Funds, died of pancreatic cancer in 2003 after receiving treatment at Johns Hopkins. The gift is expected to cover most of the construction cost for the new patient-care facility, which is scheduled for completion in 2017.

Mr. Viragh’s foundation donated $20-million to the cancer center in 2010.
