JPMorgan Chase Hackers Also Hit Corporate Charity Site

October 16, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

Cyberthieves who breached JPMorgan Chase’s digital security also targeted the website for the banking giant’s series of fundraising races, The New York Times reports. The company said infiltrating the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge site gave hackers access to race participants’ passwords and contact information.

JPMorgan said it discovered the breach at the Corporate Challenge site in early August, about a week after learning of the intrusion into its own network, which potentially compromised tens of millions of household accounts. The charity site, managed by an outside vendor, was one of several gateways cyberattackers tested as they sought to penetrate the company’s internal systems, but ultimately it was not a point of entry, according to the Times.
