Julie Morita Will Be Next CEO of the Joyce Foundation; GLAD Chooses New Leader

Joyce Foundation
Julie Morita will become president and CEO of the $1.2 billion foundation on October 1. Currently she is executive vice president at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Morita will replace its longtime leader, Ellen Alberding, who is stepping down after 22 years at the helm.
GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders
Ricardo Martinez, CEO of Equality Texas, will be the next executive director and first Latino leader of the group best known as GLAD.
He will start his new role on September 4.
Covenant House California
Fred Ali has become CEO of this organization that provides housing and support services for young people ages 18 to 24 who are at risk for homelessness.
Until he departed in 2021, he served as president and CEO of the Weingart Foundation for 21 years.
Trust for Public Land
Carrie Besnette Hauser will become president and CEO of this organization that raises money for parks and public land on October 1. Currently she is president and CEO of Colorado Mountain College.
Hauser follows Diane Regas, who has led the $324 million grant maker since 2018.
More New CEOs
Marc Heisterkamp, vice president for strategic relationships at the U.S. Green Building Council, has been appointed CEO of the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council. He succeeds Kris Spriano, who has served as interim CEO since Sarah O’Brien retired in December after 5 years at the helm. Spriano will remain with the organization as vice president of programs and development.
Kelly Huber has been appointed executive director of the Marshall Foundation. She joins the $17 million grant maker from the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, where she was most recently vice president for philanthropy.
Alicia Quinn Kitagawa is now executive director of Life Science Cares San Diego. She previously worked at the United Way of San Diego County as vice president of strategy and engagement. Kitagawa follows Leane Marchese, who has led the group since 2020.
Brad Pritchett, deputy director of Equality Texas, will begin serving as interim CEO on August 12.
Diane Salvatore will be the first executive director of the MedShadow Foundation, a health-journalism nonprofit group. She is the former editor-in-chief of the magazines Consumer Reports and Prevention.
Local Initiatives Support Corporation
Ruth Jones Nichols has been tapped as executive vice president of programs, and will oversee its 37 program offices, the national Rural LISC program, and 12 other affiliated programs to advance economic opportunity across the United States.
She has worked for the Biden-Harris Administration since 2022, and was most recently a senior adviser to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Other Notable Appointments
Carris Adams has been promoted from professional-development specialist to director of organizational services at the Mid-America Arts Alliance. In addition, Deborah McNulty, a consultant in Houston, has joined the group as senior vice president.
Michelle Collier, deputy chief operating officer at the Sierra Club, has been appointed finance and operation director at WildEarth Guardians.
Ken DiStefano Jr. has been promoted from deputy chief financial officer to chief financial officer at the Girl Scouts of the USA.
Stephanie Hotard has been promoted from executive director of development to vice president of university advancement at Loyola University New Orleans. She had served as interim vice president since May.
Departures
Gary Ginstling has resigned after one year as president and CEO of the New York Philharmonic. A successor has not yet been named.
Elizabeth Ripley will retire in 2025 as president and CEO of the Mat-Su Health Foundation. She has led the Alaskan grant maker for 16 years.
Legacy
Hope Alswang, who led a variety of art museums across the country, died from pancreatic cancer on June 11. She was 77. Alswang started in 1997 as president and CEO of the Shelburne Museum, in Vermont, before becoming director of the RISD Museum at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2005. In 2010 she joined the Norton Museum of Art, where she oversaw its $107 million expansion to become the largest art museum in Florida.
