Kathmandu’s Single-Runway Airport Makes Aid Delivery Challenging

Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport has just one runway, and that’s slowing down delivery of earthquake relief aid, NPR reports.
There is limited parking for planes and the runway has been closed for earthquake repairs several times several times. Pilots often circle for hours because there is no room to land. Even outside the airport many roads are blocked, and some groups don’t know where to go or what to do.
Donors in the United States and elsewhere are sending millions of dollars to the country, with some U.S.-based nonprofits telling The Chronicle that giving for the relief effort is at or ahead of that for other recent natural disasters.
