KATRINA CHARITIES

The six charities that raised the most money for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts have spent 71 percent of the money collected, reports MSNBC. Habitat for Humanity has spent the smallest share so far, $8.6-million of the total $75.3-million collected. The group currently has 60 homes completed or under construction, with plans to build another 1,000 homes over the next 18 months. The Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund has spent $16.1-million of the total $105-million collected. Officials at the charity say they are waiting from requests from charities for disbursement, the article says.
