KENYAN DROUGHT
February 8, 2006
Kenya’s government has appealed to the United Nations for $221.5-million in aid due to a drought that affects 3.5 million Kenyan people, reports Reuters. “Unless there is swift intervention, growing numbers of people will become severely malnourished and the mortality rate will rapidly accelerate,’’ said Gezahegn Kebede, director of Oxfam in Kenya, in a statement.
