L.A. AIDS HOSPICE CLOSING

March 6, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

After several years of disputes between the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Los Angeles County officials, the Carl Bean House, the only hospice and 24-hour nursing facility dedicated to AIDS patients in Los Angeles County, is closing its doors and relocating about 18 men and women to other facilities, reports The Los Angeles Times. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which operates the hospice, said the county wasn’t providing enough money to keep it open. A county audit last year accused the foundation of overcharging the county $340,000 for care at the facility. The foundation has denied the charge, but another audit is pending.
