A Los Angeles Opera board member, Marilyn Ziering, has donated $3.25-million for the opera company’s multiyear “Recovered Voices” project, which will focus on music suppressed by the Nazis, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Along with her donation, Ms. Ziering has raised an additional $750,000 for the series of concerts from opera supporters.
“I’m doing this really out of love for opera and out of the conviction that the voices that were silenced during the Third Reich should be heard,” Ms. Ziering said.
The program will include excerpts from operas by Walter Braunfels, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Ernst Krenek, Franz Schreker, Erwin Schulhoff, and Viktor Ullmann.
