Lawmaker’s Charity Draws Questions

Colorado Rep. Tom Plant is being criticized for supporting a state grants program that later awarded money to a charity he started, reports the Rocky Mountain News.
Mr. Plant played a key role in securing $125,000 in grant money for Colorado’s energy office last year, according to the article. The agency awarded $25,000 of that money to Mr. Plant’s energy-conservation group, the Center for ReSource Conservation, in Boulder.
Although Mr. Plant, a Democrat, said he did not know his organization would benefit from the measure when he voted for it, some Republicans, including ex-lawmaker Rob Fairbank, are crying foul, saying the move may violate House ethics rules.
