Maine Bill Would Limit Charity Officers’ Pay
May 8, 2007
A state senator in Maine is sponsoring a bill that would limit pay of charity chief executives to $250,000 a year in organizations that get at least 25 percent of their budgets from government sources, reports the Kennebec Journal.
Elizabeth Schneider, a state senator in Maine, said in testimony before the chamber’s Judiciary Committee that “paying excessive salaries is not in the best interest of the public and lining the pockets of directors and officers goes against the very concept of what a nonprofit is.”
The legislation is expected to be considered by the Senate committee on Thursday.
