Man Shoots Four Coworkers at Charity’s Factory

January 12, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

A man shot and wounded two men and two women yesterday at an Indianapolis factory operated by a nonprofit organization, reports the Associated Press. All four survived.

Most of the 100 employees at Crossroads Industrial Services, operated by Easter Seals, have mental or physical disabilities.

Police say that the shooter, Jason Burnam, attacked his coworkers “over respect.” The four, who suffered arm and leg wounds, had been teasing Mr. Burnam this week, according to his mother, who also said Mr. Burnam is taking medication for bipolar disorder.

“There was some type of confrontation that was brewing all week, and it just came to a head and he got fed up and started shooting people,” said Lt. Douglas Scheffel.

Mr. Burnam was arrested at the factory and charged with four counts of attempted murder and one count of carrying a weapon without a license.
