Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies Selects New Managing Director of Programs

Jayson Smart has been promoted to managing director of programs. He has worked at the $8 billion grant maker since 2018, and was most recently its program director.

Smart succeeds Elizabeth Sullivan, who retired in September after 10 years there.

Community Foundation for Northern Virginia

Renée Byng Yancey has been hired as its president and CEO of this community fund that manages $90 million in assets. Most recently she was chief external equity, diversity, and inclusion officer at the American Institute of Architects.

She follows Eileen Ellsworth, who is retiring after 18 years at the helm.

National Museum of Mexican Art

José Ochoa, president of the ChiArts Foundation of the Chicago High School for the Arts, has been appointed president and CEO of the museum in Chicago.

He succeeds Carlos Tortolero, who founded the museum 40 years ago and retired on December 31.


More New CEOs

Brent Landau will start as executive director of the Public Interest Law Center on February 26. He is currently global managing partner at the law firm Hausfeld.

Telly McGaha, co-interim vice president for university advancement at Georgia State University and interim president of the GSU Foundation, has been named president and CEO of Wichita State University Foundation and Alumni Engagement. He replaces Elizabeth King, who has retired after 33 years at the university.

Amy Osborn, a former vice president at Republic Bank, is now CEO of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation.

Eileen Torres was promoted from executive director to CEO of BronxWorks. She has worked at the social-service organization since 1995.

Other Notable Appointments

Dorota Amin, interim chief philanthropy and partnerships officer at the World Food Program USA since September, has been appointed to the role permanently. She previously led its corporate partnerships program.

Molly Clayton, special adviser to the CEO and chief strategy officer at Healthy Futures of Texas, has joined Arnold Ventures as its vice president of contraceptive choice and access.

Katherine Ellen Foley, a reporter covering the FDA for Politico, has joined the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World as its new director of media relations.

Lois Giovacchini, corporate-relations manager at the Japan Society of Philadelphia and its Shofuso House, has started as the first development director at Connectedly, a Philadelphia nonprofit group that creates social opportunities and provides resources to older adults and families led by grandparents.

Rochelle (Rocky) Schrecongost Goodwin has been named director of strategic initiatives at the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. Most recently she was vice president for policy and strategy at West Virginia University’s Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.

Jose Leal has been promoted to chief operating officer at the Discovery Green Conservancy. He was previously its director of finance and administration. In addition, Susanne Theis has been promoted from programming director to artistic director.

Jethro Miller, chief development officer for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, has been hired as chief development officer at the Clinton Foundation.

Catherine Trapani, executive director of Homeless Services United, has joined Volunteers of America-Greater New York as assistant vice president of public policy.

John Yung, director of planning at Urban Fast Forward, has been hired as a program manager for civic and community investments at the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile Jr. Foundation.

Departures

Tim Delaney, president and CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits, intends to retire on July 10 after 16 years in the role.

Dena Jackson, interim president and CEO at the Texas Women’s Foundation, will leave at the end of January. Hattie Hill, president and CEO of Hattie Hill Enterprises, will serve as executive in residence during its search for a permanent replacement for Michelynn (Miki) Woodard, who departed in March 2023.

Tom Kenyon has retired as chief health officer at Project Hope. A pediatrician and medical epidemiologist, he joined the public-health organization in 1985 and will remain a senior fellow there.

Jen Vorse Wilka plans to leave in February after nine years as executive director of YouthTruth, a nonprofit group housed within the Center for Effective Philanthropy. Jen de Forest, director of organizational learning and communications at YouthTruth, will serve as its interim leader until a successor has been named.
