Marquette U. Receives $51-Million for Law School

In what is believed to be the largest gift to a Wisconsin college, Raymond and Kathy Eckstein have donated $51-million to construct a new law school building at Marquette University, reports The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The gift will cover roughly 60 percent of the cost of the building, which university officials hope to open in 2009. Marquette envisions the school’s new home as both an academic facility and a place to hold local programs, an unusual partnership for a law school.
Both the building and the law library will be named in honor of the Ecksteins, who made their fortune through the Mississippi River shipping company Marquette Transportation — named for both the school and the French Explorer. The couple met at Marquette 60 years ago.
