GQ magazine is starting a charitable project called the Gentlemen’s Fund, reports The New York Times.
The fund had raised $325,000 before it was formally announced today and has a goal of raising $2-million, said Peter King Hunsinger, publisher of GQ.
The singer John Legend, who is the spokesman for the charitable effort, will encourage visitors to go to the fund’s Web site to make donations, to buy merchandise from marketers, and to take part in eBay auctions.
The proceeds will benefit an array of charities.
The project will be promoted in print and in an online advertising campaign called, “Better men. Better world.”
“People are going to find out about us who would not otherwise,” said John Sanful, managing director at Career Gear, a New York charity that is one of the beneficiaries of the new effort. “And working with GQ could lead to more corporate partnerships down the line,” he added, “which could help us serve more men.”
