A Baltimore lawyer has pledged $2.5-million to United Cerebral Palsy over four years — and he plans to donate the entire amount through the organization’s Web site.

On May 15 at the National Press Club, in Washington, Stephen L. Snyder used his credit card to make the first $100,000 installment — the largest amount the credit-card company can process in one transaction.

“I’m pleased to demonstrate that charitable giving has become as simple as clicking a mouse,” said Mr. Snyder at the event. “People often talk about how the Internet has changed their life. I believe we should now focus our collective attention on how the Internet can change the lives of others for the better.”

Mr. Snyder earmarked $2-million of his gift for the construction of a new center in Baltimore that will allow all of UCP of Central Maryland’s services to be located under one roof. The remaining $500,000 will go to United Cerebral Palsy’s national office in Washington to support the continued development of the organization’s Web site.
