Museums Enlist Cell Phones for Tours
April 5, 2006
Several museums across the country, including the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Japanese American National Museum, both in Los Angeles, are offering audio tours for cell phones as an alternative for patrons, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Visitors do not seem to mind spending cell minutes to connect to a recorded tour, and museums might find a benefit in providing less equipment and staff time for more traditional tours, the article says. Companies like Guide by Cell, in San Francisco, and Museum411, in Minneapolis, started up within the last couple of years to support the trend.
