Museums Increasingly Turn to Art Galleries to Support Exhibitions

March 7, 2016

Some nonprofit museums are turning to commercial art galleries as a way to raise money for exhibitions, according to The New York Times.

Critics say such arrangements present a conflict of interest that give gallery owners too much influence on what art the public sees. Others argue that museum shows raise the value of an artist’s work and that the benefits are shared by both the gallery and the museum.
