David “The Edge” Evans, the lead guitarist for the Irish rock band U2, is working with three music groups to create Music Rising, a charitable organization that will help musicians in New Orleans replace instruments destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, reports the Associated Press. Working with Gibson Guitar, the Guitar Center Music Education Foundation, and the MusicCares Foundation, Mr. Evans says he has not set his sights on following in the social-activist footsteps of Bono, his fellow bandmate. “Bono is kind of a one-off character in music,” he said. “I would never think of trying to take on quite that level of commitment.”
