Muslim Charity Sues Bank Over Accounts

A Muslim charity located near Detroit sued Comerica Bank last week, saying its civil rights were violated when the bank planned to close its accounts, reports The Detroit Free Press.
The charity, Life for Relief and Development, in Southfield, Mich., is also asking the U.S. District Court in Detroit to stop the bank from sharing information it has about the charity with other banks. Federal agents searched the charity’s offices two months ago but did not file charges or make any allegations, the paper reports.
Comerica granted an extension on the organization’s checking accounts earlier this month after protests over its plans to terminate the accounts.
A vice president at Comerica declined to comment on the situation.
