National Service Fraternity Is Among Recent ‘Points of Light’

Following are the people and organizations that have most recently been named to receive President Bush’s Daily Points of Light Award.
The Points of Light Foundation, a Washington charity, assists the president in making the choices and carrying out the award program. The recipients:
2391. National Student Partnerships-San Antonio, a student-run volunteer organization affiliated with St. Mary’s U., in San Antonio, that matches students with local volunteer projects that serve disadvantaged people.
2392. Parca, Burlingame, Calif., an organization that serves people with developmental disabilities and their families by helping adults learn to live independently.
2393. HBCU Technology Project, Atlanta, through which several historically black colleges and universities provide computer training and other technological assistance to local community-based groups.
2394. Robert Bradshaw, Ogden, Utah, an 85-year-old who uses his own car to collect and deliver food donations to the Northern Utah Food Bank, a project of Catholic Community Services of Northern Utah.
2395. Bill Cordell, Ocoee, Fla., a literacy volunteer with the BookPALS (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools) Program, a project of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation through which actors and other performers teach reading skills to the children of immigrant families.
2396. Rape & Sexual Abuse Crisis Line Volunteers, Nashville, who provide a round-the-clock response and referral line for victims of sexual violence.
2397. Alpha Phi Omega National Co-Ed Service Fraternity, Independence, Mo., an organization with chapters at more than 350 colleges and universities in several countries. Each semester fraternity members collectively donate 300,000 volunteer hours to local, national, and international service programs.
