New $1.5 Billion N.C. Health Foundation Announces First CEO (Transitions)

Antony Chiang, president of Empire Health Foundation, will be the first CEO of this new foundation in Asheville, N.C. It opened earlier this year with an estimated $1.5 billion in proceeds from the sale of the nonprofit Mission Health System to HCA Healthcare.

New York Public Radio

Goli Sheikholeslami, CEO of Chicago Public Media, will become president and CEO in October. She will succeed Depelsha McGruder, the organization’s chief operating officer, who has served as interim CEO since April following the departure of Laura Walker. Walker led the public-radio group for 23 years.

UNAIDS

Winnie Byanyima, executive director of Oxfam International since 2013, has been appointed executive director of the United Nations’ HIV/AIDS program.

Wells Fargo

Eileen Fitzgerald will join the bank as head of housing-affordability philanthropy on September 30. She is currently president and CEO of Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future and will report to Brandee McHale, the new president of the Wells Fargo Foundation.

In June, Wells Fargo committed $1 billion in giving for affordable housing.

More New CEOs

Deborah Aubert Thomas, vice president for programs and learning at Philanthropy Ohio, has been promoted to president and CEO.

Ben Casey, a senior consultant at Lawson Associates, has been promoted to president and CEO of this fundraising and nonprofit-management consulting firm.

Kimberly Haugstad has been named CEO of Global Genes, a health organization for patients with rare diseases. Most recently, she was CEO and president of the Hemophilia Federation of America.

Alison Silberman, senior program director at Tuesday’s Children, has been tapped as CEO of Stupid Cancer, which provides resources and services for young people with cancer.

Allison Harvey Turner, director of the environment program at the S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation, has been named CEO of the Water Foundation. She succeeds Wade Crowfoot, who departed in January to become secretary for natural resources for Gov. Gavin Newsom of California.

Chris West, chief financial officer for EDEN Inc., has been named president and CEO of North Coast Community Homes, in Cleveland.

JPMorgan Chase Foundation

The corporate grant maker has promoted three employees.

Colleen Briggs and Jennie Sparandara will serve as co-heads of strategy for the foundation. Briggs was most recently executive director of community innovation at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where Sparandara was executive director of global philanthropy.

Julie Slama, vice president for global philanthropy at the bank, has been named head of employee engagement and volunteerism.

Other Notable Appointments

Meredith Barber has been appointed vice president for development and marketing at Merit School of Music. Previously, she was senior director of institutional advancement at Rising Ground.

Kelly Blanks, chief philanthropy officer at the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, has joined Loudoun Citizens for Social Justice/Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter as its first director of development.

Annabel Cellini has been named chief strategy officer at American Student Assistance. Most recently, she was senior vice president for strategy and marketing in North America at Pearson.

Bruce Earnest, assistant vice president for academic affairs at the University of Mobile, has been promoted to vice president for advancement.

Shaheena Khan, chief of equity at Youngstown City School District, in Ohio, is now the director of education strategies and ventures at the Kenneth Rainin Foundation.

Kevin Madden, a partner at Hamilton Place Strategies, has been hired as executive vice president for advocacy at Arnold Ventures, which was previously known as the Laura and John Arnold Foundation.

Danielle Shoots has been named vice president and chief financial officer at the Colorado Trust. She joins the $445 million foundation from Comcast, where she served as vice president for finance and business operations for the West division.

Departures

Richard Lariviere, president and CEO the Field Museum, will depart in August 2020 after eight years leading the arts institution in Chicago.

Beth Tuttle will step down as president and CEO of the American Horticultural Society this fall. Beginning October 1, J. Robert Brackman, who most recently was interim vice president for horticulture at Holden Forest and Gardens, will serve as interim director.
