New $135 Million Program Will Build Inclusive Economies in 5 Calif. Cities (Grants Roundup)

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
James Irvine Foundation
$135 million over seven years to Priority Communities, which will make grants to support efforts in five California cities to build inclusive local economies. The selected cities are Fresno, Riverside, Salinas, San Bernardino, and Stockton.
Open Society Foundations
$16 million for urgent climate priorities related to the Covid-19 pandemic, specifically focusing on environmentally friendly economic-stimulus plans and preventing governmental rollbacks of conservation policies.
National Park Service
$14 million through its African American Civil Rights Historic Preservation Fund to support 51 projects across 20 states and the District of Columbia that will preserve key historic sites in the 20th-century struggle for racial equality.
Lilly Endowment
$5 million to the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission for its campaign to build the National World War I Memorial, in Washington.
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
$4 million grant to the American Indian College Fund to support college students whose education has been interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ford Foundation
$3.7 million to Borealis Philanthropy for its Reclaiming the Border Narrative: Storytelling and Cultural Power for Migrant Justice project and core support for the Racial Equity in Philanthropy Fund.
New Grant Opportunity
The RRF Foundation for Aging is accepting proposals for projects working to improve quality of life for older Americans through direct service, advocacy, education, and training programs for professionals working with elders. Its program areas are caregiving, economic security in later life, housing, and social and intergenerational connectedness. Proposals for direct-service projects are considered from organizations based in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Florida. Projects of national relevance are considered from organizations across the United States. Letters of intent are due June 15, and the deadline for full proposals is August 3.
