A new Blackbaud Inc. index that tracks giving to higher education found donations to colleges and universities ticking up in the early part of the year, The Chronicle of Higher Education writes.
For the three months that ended in April, the 558 colleges reporting data to Blackbaud—representing about 10 percent of U.S. institutions of higher education—saw contributions rise by 0.8 percent compared to the same period last year, in the three months that ended in April.
The fundraising-technology firm recently added higher education to the nonprofit sectors about which it tracks giving trends on a monthly basis, becoming the first entity to report giving data for colleges and universities at that frequency. Other surveys that track a wider array of institutions, notably the Council for Aid to Education’s Voluntary Support of Education report, release results annually or semi-annually.
