New Director Named for Baltimore Museum of Art

The Baltimore Museum of Art announced Monday that Christopher Bedford will lead the museum starting in August, succeeding Doreen Bolger, who stepped down as director last June after a 17-year tenure, reports The Baltimore Sun.

Mr. Bedford, 39, is the director of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University. He has been credited with turning the Rose around after a period of financial stress that saw the Massachusetts university mull closing the museum to the public and selli some of its collection. Prior to leading the Rose, Mr. Bedford served as chief curator at the Wexner Center for the Arts at Ohio State University, assistant curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and consulting curator for the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
