Since taking the leadership of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in April, Michael Govan has moved quickly to transform the organization he calls “a sleeping giant,” reports the Los Angeles Times.
He has already wooed two patrons, Eli Broad and Dick Riordan, previewed a show with Mr. Broad and his wife, Edythe, and persuaded trustees to sell the director’s residence and purchase a new one, reports the Times.
While some insiders said that a few curators at the museum had hoped for a director with more academic credentials, Mr. Govan has already won over some of his doubters through one-on-one conversations and discussions at curatorial meetings, the newspaper says.
