The Lila Wallace–Reader’s Digest Fund, in New York, has awarded a total of $8.2-million to 11 theaters, dance companies, and museums in the first round of a new grant-making program intended to help arts groups attract more people to performances and exhibits.
The grants program also aims to help groups share successful audience-expansion practices with other institutions, and increase their ticket sales and charitable donations.
The new program, called Leadership and Excellence in Audience Development, is open only to arts groups the foundation invites to apply. The foundation would not say how much it plans to spend over all on the new program.
