New On-Line Effort to Improve Race Relations

A California non-profit group has announced a new effort to use the Internet to promote racial harmony.
The Western Justice Center, in Pasadena, and America Online have started “Dialogues Online: Healing Racism in Your Hometown.” The on-line forums are aimed at dealing with race relations in four cities: Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Washington.
Through the program, America Online’s Digital City Web site will post weekly reports on racial issues relevant to each city and will highlight the efforts of non-profit groups that are working on solutions. The site also offers a link to the Western Justice Center’s data base, which contains information on nearly 900 organizations involved in conflict resolution and cross-cultural collaboration.
The Western Justice Center hopes to raise enough money to expand the interactive content to other cities throughout the country.
The W. K. Kellogg Foundation, in Battle Creek, Mich., contributed $50,000 and Edison International, in Rosemead, Cal., gave $25,000 to this project.
