Background: Ms. Shobe was previously senior vice president of development and field operations at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, where she had worked since 2000. Before that, she spent more than 20 years working at other health charities.

What her organization’s initials stand for: The 23-year-old group was founded as a merger of three organizations that focus on mental health and was formerly known as the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression.

Her agenda: Getting started on a $200-million, five-year fund-raising campaign that is part of the charity’s just-announced 10-year, $500-million goal. To get there, Ms. Shobe plans to diversify the group’s fund-raising efforts beyond direct mail and seeking big gifts.

Her inspiration: Ms. Shobe, who says she has no immediate family members with a mental illness, draws inspiration from the charity’s volunteers and supporters: “They deliver for me the passion and commitment and strong reason to be affiliated with this organization.”
