New President of the Woods Fund of Chicago Named; Other Personnel Changes in the Nonprofit World

America Scores (New York): Appointed Norma Barquet, executive vice president at the Girl Scouts of the USA (New York), to be chief executive officer. Ms. Barquet succeeds Paul Caccamo, who is now executive director of Up2Us, a national coalition of youth sports organizations. America Scores offers after-school programs that combine soccer, poetry, and service learning to fight child obesity and improve literacy.

Classroom Central (Charlotte, N.C.): Appointed Janice Booth, chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of the Pioneer Council (Gastonia, N.C.), to be executive director. This group distributes free school supplies to teachers in the Charlotte area.

George Washington U. (Washington): Appointed Michael Morsberger, vice president of development for the School of Medicine at Duke U. (Durham, N.C.), to be vice president for development and alumni relations.

Mother Jones (San Francisco): Appointed Madeleine Buckingham, chief financial officer, to be president and publisher. Ms. Buckingham succeeds Jay Harris, who has resigned.

Public Broadcasting Service (Arlington, Va.): Appointed Brian J. Reddington, director of institutional advancement at the Smithsonian Institution (Washington), to be senior vice president of development.


Princeton U. (N.J.): Appointed Elizabeth Boluch Wood, assistant vice president of development for capital giving, to be vice president for development.

Seton Institute (St. Louis): Appointed Susan Nestor Levy, chief advocacy officer at Ascension Health (St. Louis), to be executive director. Ms. Levy succeeds Eugene Smith, who plans to retire. This organization supports health care and emergency relief in underdeveloped countries.

Sundance Institute (Beverly Hills, Calif.): Appointed Keri Putnam, president of production at Miramax Films (Los Angeles), to be executive director of this group, which develops films and presents the Sundance Film Festival.

Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (Richmond): Appointed Thomas R. Morris, secretary of education for the Commonwealth of Virginia (Richmond), to be president.

Annie E. Casey Foundation (Baltimore): Appointed Patrick T. McCarthy, senior vice president, to be president and chief executive officer.

Common Counsel Foundation (Oakland, Calif.): Appointed Ronald M. Rowell, program officer for social justice at the San Francisco Foundation, to be chief executive officer.

Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation (Owings Mills, Md.): Appointed Rachel Garbow Monroe, chief operating officer, to be president. Ms. Monroe succeeds Shale D. Stiller, who will return to being a lawyer at DLA Piper, based in Baltimore.

Hitachi Foundation (Washington): Appointed Jenny Harms and Tom Strong, fellows at the foundation, to be program officers.

McKnight Foundation (Minneapolis): Appointed Bonnie Houck, district literacy coordinator for Minnesota’s Independent School District 191 (Burnsville), to be director of its early-literacy grant-making program.


W.K. Kellogg Foundation (Battle Creek, Mich.): Appointed Reginald G. Sanders, manager for pension investments at the Eastman Kodak Company (Rochester, N.Y.), to be director of investments.

Woods Fund of Chicago: Appointed Laura S. Washington, a columnist at the Chicago Sun-Times, to be president. She succeeds Deborah Harrington, who has retired.

York County Community Foundation (York, Pa.): Appointed Jane Conover, chief community officer at the YWCA of York, to be vice president of community investment.
