NEW RUSSIAN CHARITY LAW

As a Russian law went into effect that tightened restrictions on foreign charities, a Russian-British humanitarian group was shut down in the troubled Caucasus region, reports The Wall Street Journal. The closure wasn’t linked to the law, but according to Russian prosecutors, the court is considering a request that would close the International Medical Corps, an American charity. Both charities were accused of failing to obtain permission from the Russian government to operate in the region, but officials at International Medical Corps say its license is current.
