NEW SCHOOLS VENTURE FUND
February 17, 2006
Venture capitalists in California’s Silicon Valley—known for its high-technology enterprises—are increasingly directing their money to nonprofit education projects, reports The New York Times. Leading the trend is the New Schools Venture Fund, in San Francisco, which provides money for teachers in public schools and small charter schools that serve low-income populations. The $80-million organization is supported by venture capitalists, such as L. John Doerr, who calls the effort “philanthropy held accountable by the rigors of venture-capital financing.”
