New ‘X Prize’ Offered for Decoding Genes

October 5, 2006

The X Prize Foundation, in Santa Monica, Calif., which in 2004 sponsored an award for developing a rocket for private space travel, is now offering $10-million to any scientist or team of scientists who can completely decode the genes of 100 people in 10 days, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The prize money is being donated to the group by Stewart Blusson, a Canadian geologist who helped discover a trove of diamonds south of the Arctic Circle in 1991.
