Amount donated in 2013: $101-million

Beneficiary: NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital

Background: Mr. Koch is executive vice president of Koch Industries, an industrial conglomerate founded by his father, Fred Koch.

After 25 years as a member of the hospital’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Koch pledged $100-million to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital for a new building that will house an outpatient care center. The facility will be named for Mr. Koch, who said he plans to pay $10-million a year for a decade to fulfill his pledge.

Mr. Koch also gave the hospital $1-million to support research on prostate cancer, a disease he has battled for many years.
