No. 24: Herb Kohl

Beneficiary: Greater Milwaukee Foundation

Background: Mr. Kohl is a former president of his family’s Kohl’s Department Stores and served from 1989 to 2013 as a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin.

Mr. Kohl gave the Greater Milwaukee Foundation $100-million, which he designated toward the construction of a new sports arena in Milwaukee.

Mr. Kohl sold the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team in 2014 for $550-million. The donation fulfills a promise he made at the time to build the team a new arena.
