No. 32: Jay Shidler

Beneficiary: University of Hawaii Manoa Shidler College of Business

Background: He founded the Shidler Group, a commercial real-estate development company.

The 68-year-old Mr. Shidler pledged $69-million to University of Hawaii Manoa Shidler College of Business to endow professorships, scholarships, and other programs. He also gave the business school a total of more than $110,000 for alumni programs and building renovations. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the university in 1968.

Including this latest donation, Mr. Shidler has given the business school at total of at least $100-million since 2006 when the school was named for him.
