Background: Mr. Geffen founded Geffen Records and co-founded DreamWorks Studios.

Mr. Geffen, 69, pledged $30-million to the Motion Picture & Television Fund Foundation to endow the organization’s work of providing health care and other types of assistance to older people who once worked in film and television.

A longtime supporter of the group, Mr. Geffen serves on the foundation’s board.


Mr. Geffen founded the David Geffen Foundation in the 1990s, which awarded a grant of $100-million last year to the University of California at Los Angeles to endow scholarships for students attending the David Geffen School of Medicine.

The Motion Picture & Television Fund Foundation will receive the money upon his death.
