Non-Profit Managers Offered On-Line Advice

A new Web site, InnoNet’s Workstation for Innovative Nonprofits, offers planning and evaluation help for charities.
The Web site features interactive work sheets that non-profit staff members can use to design new programs and evaluation procedures. Later this fall, users will also be able to create budgets, fund-raising blueprints, and grant applications on the site.
After they complete their plans, users can submit them to InnoNet, the Washington non-profit consulting organization that created the site, for a free review.
InnoNet checks each element of the plan for items it has identified as important. For example, does the mission statement include the group’s name and purpose? Is it broader than just the organization’s goals? The review, which non-profit managers will get back within two weeks, also points out common pitfalls to avoid and offers advice on how to improve the overall quality of the plan.
The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, in Washington, the Ford Foundation, in New York, and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, in Los Altos, Cal., have contributed a total of $250,000 to finance the site.
