Nonprofit Minn. Dance Group’s Board Resigns En Masse

January 30, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

The entire 20-member board of the Minnesota Dance Theatre has stepped down, saying in a surprise announcement Tuesday that “it is no longer able to serve the needs of the organization going forward,” the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

In a statement, board members said the 50-year-old troupe “remains solvent and critically successful. We hope that the company and [its] school will continue to succeed in the hands of a new board and the artistic director.” Artistic Director Lise Houlton, whose mother founded the organization, issued a statement thanking the board.

Neither Ms. Houlton nor the outgoing board’s chairman, James Matejcek, returned the calls seeking additional comment Tuesday. Jon Cranney, an actor and theater director who had served on the dance group’s board in the past, said he has “no inkling of what prompted this. I know there has been a lot of turnover on the board.”
