North Korea Allows Aid Shipment

August 14, 2006

North Korea has approved a one-time shipment of rice by the South Korea Red Cross after first turning down offers of aid, reports Reuters.

The rice, as much as 100,000 tons, comes after massive flooding in July.

South Korea cut off its regular shipments of food aid to North Korea after the country fired seven missiles last month in defiance of international warnings.
