N.Y. Campaign Body to Examine de Blasio-Linked Nonprofits

July 6, 2016 | Read Time: 1 minute

New York City’s Campaign Finance Board will look into whether nonprofits aligned with Mayor Bill de Blasio transgressed rules on political fundraising and spending, writes the New York Post. The regulatory body released an agenda Tuesday that includes taking up “the matter of Campaign for One New York and United for Affordable NYC” and candidates cooperating with “issue advocacy” groups.

The nonprofits were established to advance Mr. de Blasio’s agenda, with the Campaign for One New York raising more than $4 million to promote mayoral policies in areas such as education and affordable housing. That group shut down in March amid growing scrutiny of its fundraising from entities that do business with City Hall. Watchdog group Common Cause filed a complaint in February seeking a review by the Campaign Finance Board.
