Members of Brooklyn borough President Eric Adams’ staff sought donations at a local event last week for a charity that does not yet exist, according to the New York Post.
Attendees at the meet-and-greet at Borough Hall received fliers and “Partner/Sponsor” application forms to contribute to One Brooklyn, described as Mr. Adams’ “affiliated nonprofit” that would fund cultural events.
The state Division of Corporations said it has no record of an entity under that name. Mr. Adams, a former state senator who was elected borough president last year, acknowledged he had not yet set up One Brooklyn.
The city’s Department of Investigation is looking into the solicitation, the Post also reports, citing unnamed sources. Mr. Adams said “nothing improper” was done, adding, “Whatever administrative errors that were made, I’m sure [investigators] will look at it and come up with corrected recommendations in the future.”
