Obituary: American Who Founded Rwandan Orphanage Dies
October 6, 2006
Rosamond Carr, an American who had been living in Rwanda for more than five decades and turned her flower shed into a haven for children orphaned by the genocide, died September 29 at the age of 94, reports The Washington Post.
Twelve years ago, Ms. Carr decided to turn her shed into an orphanage for 40 children and named it Imbabazi, meaning “a place where you will receive all the love and care a mother would give.”
Ms. Carr ran Imbabazi until her death; some 120 children still live there.
