Obituary: Barbara Cox Anthony, Media Heiress and Philanthropist

Barbara Cox Anthony, a billionaire and principal owner of Cox Enterprises, a media company in Atlanta, died on Monday at the age of 84, reports the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Ms. Anthony typically donated half of her income to charity, often anonymously. She co-founded the La Pietra-Hawaii School for Girls, in Waikiki, and served as chairwoman there until last year. She also endowed the Barbara Cox Anthony Foundation, which focuses on community development, education, health, and human services.
She and her sister inherited Cox Enterprises from their father, and together were ranked 45th on the most recent Forbes magazine list of the world’s richest people, which estimated their fortune at $12.6-billion each.
