Obituary: John P. McGovern, Doctor and Philanthropist

John P. McGovern, an allergist and real-estate investor in Houston who gave millions to support medical institutions, died on May 31 at the age of 85, reports The New York Times.
Dr. McGovern founded the John P. McGovern Foundation, a grant maker that supports medical libraries, museums, and universities. He gave $6.5- million to help found the McGovern-Davison Children’s Health Center, at Duke University, where he received his medical degree. He also donated to the Texas Medical Center to help build facilities, a commons, and gardens.
