OBITUARY: JUDITH STARK
January 3, 2006
Judith Thomas Stark, a former dancer who started a performing-arts foundation in California in the late 1960s, died last month at age 96, reports the Los Angeles Times. The Judith S. Thomas Foundation, created from the sale of an audio-equipment company Ms. Stark had started with her ex-husband, William Thomas, made grants directly to needy artists. Ms. Stark also founded the nonprofit Theater Vanguard, in West Hollywood, Calif., which gave all of its proceeds to experimental filmmakers, composers, and dancers, who performed at the theater.
