The philanthropist Morris (Marty) Silverman, who established the Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research, died last week, reports the Associated Press. He was 93. In 2000 Mr. Silverman pledged $50-million to create the medical program to provide annual awards of $500,000 to doctors and researchers. The award is the largest of its kind in the United States. He also established the $300-million Marty and Dorothy Silverman Foundation, which supported social services in Albany, N.Y., and Jewish causes.
