Obituary: Patrick McGovern, Publisher and $350-Million MIT Donor

Patrick J. McGovern, a billionaire media and research magnate who gave the Massachusetts Institute of Technology $350-million in 2000 to pursue neuroscience research, died Wednesday at age 76, writes The Boston Globe. The cause was not disclosed.
Mr. McGovern founded Boston-based International Data Group, a trailblazer in information-technology research and the publisher of Computerworld, PCWorld, and Macworld magazines and scores of other print titles with a combined global circulation of 5.9 million.
The donation 14 years ago by Mr. McGovern, a 1959 MIT graduate, and his wife, Lore Harp McGovern, led to the creation of the school’s McGovern Institute for Brain Research.
