Electronics giant Siemens is donating $66.8-million worth of engineering software to Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in an effort to help steer students into manufacturing careers, Cincinnati Business Courier reports.
The firm’s “product lifecycle management” computer programs help engineers digitally design and test new products and simulate how they will perform throughout their period of use. Siemens officials said the gift, announced Wednesday, aims to fire students’ interest in engineering and manufacturing and create jobs in the fields.
“This is really transformative. I know that’s an overused word, but it really is,” Cincinnati State President O’dell Owens said. “Community colleges, we put people to work. We create the middle class.”
