Later this month, the Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network will broadcast a panel discussion online entitled “Is Paying for E-Mail Delivery Inevitable?”
Nonprofit leaders and business executives will discuss America Online’s recently announced plans to allow marketers who send bulk e-mail messages to pay a fee to bypass the company’s spam filters and ensure that their messages are delivered to its customers.
The panel will include Charles Stiles, postmaster at America Online; Danny O’Brien, activism coordinator at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a San Francisco organization that has led opposition to AOL’s certified e-mail program; and Kimberly Reckner, lead technical liaison of online fund raising at the American Red Cross, which has welcomed the certified e-mail program as a potential solution to the problem of fraudulent online appeals that use the names of well-known charities like the Red Cross.
The discussion, which will be held on May 24, is similar to one that took place during the Nonprofit Technology Conference in March. The conference discussion is still available online.
